The paper reports the analysis carried out regarding the peculiarities in the formation of explosion functionally-oriented coatings. It is shown that their properties should be ensured depending on the action peculiarities of operation functions. A schematic diagram of a plant for coating sputtering is shown. Basic characteristics and technological peculiarities for the realization of functionally-oriented coatings in mechanical engineering are established.
