Every year, about one million cars are uncoupled for running repairs, 2/3 of which are due to wheel failures that are repaired by turning. At the same time, the average idle time of cars in the running repair has already reached 6 days, which negatively affects the performance of transportation. The paper argues for the need to solve the problem of long-term downtime of cars, and the use of mobile technologies to turn wheelsets which can be an effective option.
