The paper describes the life of the famous Russian and Soviet scientist, one of the founders of the doctrine of geometry of cutting tools, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Aleksandr Vasilyevich Pankin (1876 - 1963). Before the October Revolution, he was a full-time teacher at Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy; during the First World War, he organized the production of shells at factories in Southern Russia, and was a colonel. After the revolution, A.V.
